  • Step 1: Finding the educational institutes offering the desired Photonics and Nanotechnology course.
  • Step 2: Gathering information on the eligibility criteria of the course by visiting the official website of the school or by contacting the school authority via phone or email. 
  • Step 3: Narrowing down the list of universities/colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

To study photonics and nanotechnology in a Swedish university, one must complete a bachelor's degree in engineering or science from an internationally recognized university. Additionally, they must complete 20 credits (or ECTS) or more in mathematics and 30 credits (or ECTS) or more in physics. In certain Swedish universities, the minimum requirements are 30 credits and 40 credits, respectively, for mathematics and physics. 

Applicants' bachelor's degree programs must cover subjects like electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, Fourier analysis, linear algebra, multi-dimensional calculus, and solid-state physics.

  • Marksheets and certificates (translated into English if written in another language) 

  • Signed cover letter. 

  • LOR

  • Identity proof 

Proficiency Test

Students must also prove their English language proficiency by appearing for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. Students must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 to get the application approved. Those appearing for TOEFL, on the other hand, will need to score at least 90.

Visa Process

The application for a visa or residence permit can be submitted online on the official website of the Swedish Migration Agency. To apply offline, students must visit their home country's local Swedish consulate or embassy. Online applications are typically processed much faster as the Swedish Migration Department receives the necessary documents. 

In the next step, the student must appear for an interview at his or her local Swedish embassy. The person must arrive at the interview venue with original copies of all required documents and his/her passport. If the interviewers are satisfied with the answers and find that the submitted documents are in order, the applicant will be granted a visa/residence permit.
