Linnaeus University

Linnaeus University (originally referred to as Linnéuniversitetet in Sweden) was established 2010 as a state university. While the university is based in Småland, its campuses can also be found in Kalmar and Växjö. The university's name is a tribute to Carl Linnaeus, an erstwhile Swedish biologist and physician.

Linnaeus University was born when Kalmar University and Växjö University merged this year. While Växjö University was set up in 1967 as one of the local departments of Lund University, Kalmar University was a university college set up in 1977. Today, a stylized tree serves as the official logo of Linnaeus University. Apart from symbolizing May, the logo also reflects the ambition of the university to become a global educational institution.

• If we consider the total number of students, Linnaeus University is the 6th largest university in Sweden.
• Since the university started operations in 2010, it has provided educational facilities to more than 33,000 students, many of whom have been from foreign countries.
• The university offers courses or programs in two different cycle levels. While 100-degree programs are offered in the first cycle, students can choose from 80 courses in the second cycle.
• Given the facilities and amenities Linnaeus University offers, it is considered one of the best educational institutions for international students in Sweden.
• Every year, the university witnesses a spike in the number of applications put in by students from different countries. The international master's programs, in particular, always remain in high demand.
• The university has five different faculties: the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Technology, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the School of Business and Commerce. 
• The university administration is divided into nine different departments: the Communications Office, Executive Office, Finance Office, IT Office, Office of External Relations, Office of Human Resources, Office of Facilities Management and Services, Office of Student Affairs, and University Library.
• The university's two main campuses are Kalmar and Växjö. At the same time, the Kalmar campus is based in Universitetskajen, and the Växjö campus is situated very close to the Växjö city center. The Kalmar campus is known for serving as the base for the Department of Biology and Environmental Science. The Växjö campus stands out for having an American campus look to it. 

Linnaeus University Admissions

• International students can apply for any courses or programs offered by Linnaeus University by visiting the university's website, www.universityadmissions.se. The applications for all classes offered at the bachelor's and master's levels are processed online. 
• While the fee a student must pay would depend on the course they have applied for, the average application fee charged by the university is SEK 900. An international student can pay the fee through online banking or by using their debit or credit card.
• While international students have to go through two different admission rounds, the second round is not mandatory for somebody not from the EU/EEA.
• International students must submit their applications before the deadline stated by the university. Those who submit their applications a little late will not be eligible for scholarships.
• International students can apply for both spring and autumn sessions. For the spring session, the deadline for the first round of applications is August 17 (masters) and January 15 (bachelor's). For the autumn session, the deadline for the first application round for both bachelor's and master's is January 15. The deadline for the second round of applications for both master's and bachelor's level courses is October 15 (spring) and April 15 (autumn). 
• 3 months before their semester starts, international students are required to get their visa and complete all the processes required to move to Sweden.

Linnaeus University Eligibility Criteria

• Linnaeus University offers courses or programs in English to international students. Therefore, an international student must appear for one of the English proficiency tests, score well in them, and submit a document stating the same.
• They must also submit official transcripts showcasing the names or details of all the courses they have enrolled in or subjects they have studied. 
• The university will also ask them to submit certificates of diplomas. Submitting a higher secondary school certificate will also be required during the application process.
• A copy of the passport provided by the international student will serve as the document confirming their identification. 

Linnaeus University Programs

• Since Linnaeus University has five faculties and multiple educational departments, students get a wide range of courses and programs. While certain application processes are common to all the courses, some of the programs have some specific requirements.
• While official transcripts are required to be submitted while applying for any course or program, having some prior work experience is not mandatory for all the courses. Some of the university's most sought-after courses are web development, management, psychology, nursing, computer science, cultural studies, business, economics, energy, mathematics, and design. 

Linnaeus University Accommodation

• After arriving in Sweden to study at Linnaeus University, international students would get multiple accommodation options. Linnaeus University has not assumed ownership of any housing facility. The university, however, has collaborated with local housing companies to accommodate students. 
• The university does not work towards offering accommodation facilities to the families, spouses, or relatives of international students. If an international student plans to live with their family or spouse while studying at the university, they will have to look for an accommodation facility on their own. 
• Even those who plan to live independently can look for paying guest accommodation facilities, hostels, and apartments closer to the campus. Many reliable websites or online platforms allow international students to look for accommodation facilities.

Linnaeus University Scholarships

• Linnaeus University allows international students to apply for two different scholarship programs. While the Linnaeus University Scholarship is designed for those who wish to take up a master's program, the Linnaeus University Scholarship for Current Students has been structured for those who have already been admitted to a course or program lasting for 2 or 3 years. 
• The Linnaeus University Scholarship can be applied for before a course or program commences. The Linnaeus University Scholarship for Current Students, on the other hand, can be used after a course or program starts. 
• After getting a scholarship from Linnaeus University, an international student can look forward to witnessing a 75% reduction in their overall tuition fee. While the scholarship is granted for one semester, it gets extended to 2 or 4 semesters based on various factors, including the candidate's academic performance. The scholarship is not meant to cover living expenses and other costs incurred by the student.
